48 HOURS IN MELBOURNE
I’m a born and bred Sydney girl. But when it comes to jumping on a quick flight and heading to Melbourne – well, its one of my favorite weekend getaways. I love perusing the european style cobbled laneways, the delicious noshery’s and alluring wine bars that always seem to be open late…and is it just me? Or do all the men seem more dapper and stylish? Well if you don’t agree with that, you can’t deny this sophisticated city is the perfect 48hour getaway to eat, drink and certainly be merry! Here are our picks:

The Art Series Hotel, St Kilda
Located in the beautiful boulevard area of business, the Art Series Hotel Group hosts a number of boutique art inspired hotels that are perfect and reasonably priced for your quick getaway. My favourite hotel, The Blackman in St. Kilda surrounds guests with Charles Blackman’s poetic, romantically inspired artworks and also boasts luxurious 5 star features including bespoke bedding and cheeky arrival hamper packs. You can also hire their cute street bikes or a vroom vroom vesper if you prefer the rush.
Auction Rooms Cafe, North Melbourne
When it comes to coffee, Melbourne can do no wrong. We love the hot brew here, along with their fresh juices and delicious breakfast options – especially their Shakshuka: baked eggs with a tomato sauce, perfect for serving on toast.
Breakfast for the health nut….
Pillar of Salt, South Yarra
If you want to venture out for really creative healthy breakfast cuisine, look no further than Pillar of Salt. With menu specials like Citrus fruit salad with blueberry and chia seed coyo yoghurt topped with amarynth popcorn and kimchi, you’ll be able to drag any organic healthy guru to this destination.
DFO Direct Factory Outlet, South Wharf
With all the trendy bars and restaurants you’ll be frequenting, you may want to save a little money on the shopping. Grab a cab and head over to the massive discount district that boasts big brands like Oroton, Michael Kors and Karen Miller with some brands at 70% off. Located at 20 Convention Centre Place in South Wharf directly next to Melbourne Convention Centre. Close to the Docklands and in the Melbourne CBD, SFO South Wharf is easily accessible by both car and public transport. Plan ahead – you may spend a few hours out here!
The Strand, Melbourne
With stores like Acne, Cos and Fat (home to brands such as PAM and Greenland), you’d be crazy not to shop your life away at this neat little arcade.
Half Moon, Brighton
Delicious, feel good food is what they do best. Try the house cured salmon gravlax (with wild fennel and creme fraiche), slow cooked crispy skin pork belly (with zest red cabbage and pomegranate molasses) or the organic chicken ballotine (wrapped in prosciutto, of course)… are you hungry yet?
Centre of Contemporary Photography, Fitzroy
It’s exactly as the name suggests: a mecca of brilliant photographic exhibitions, paired with a super impressive list of weekend workshops for the budding artist within.
Rosetta, Crown Casino
This high end Italian eatery is part of Neil Perry’s Rockpool group and often frequented by local and international celebs. Don’t expect a tricked up menu at this establishment, you will find Italian classics such as Bolognaise Ragu and Suckling Pig. We love the Spaghetti with clams, white wine, chilli & garlic, perfect with a glass of chilled white.
For Dinner with a side of Romance…..
For the ultimate, romantic dinner date look no further than The Brooks nestled in a seductive basement under the Hermes Boutique on Collins Street. Posh and perfectly poised tribe of serious foodies and martini drinkers frequent here on a friday and saturday night, if not to be seen amongst some of melbourne’s most elite, but then to taste the delicious tasting menus that start from $150/head. Save up for this one as its is fine dining at its best. If you cant make it for dinner put your prettiest pumps on and duck in for a quick lunch. Their 2-3 course City Lunch menus start from $39.
Atrium Bar, Melbourne
Post dinner, head to Atrium at Crown to finish your night. This bar boasts 20 different kinds of top-notch bubbles from all around the world. Sounds like perfection to us – Cheers!
Pope Joan, Brunswick East
When there’s an option of “add crinkle cut chips to your sandwich” on your breakfast menu, you just know that you’re in good hands. We recommend The Pope Joan sandwich with bacon, fried egg and homemade brown sauce, or the big breakfast if it tickles your fancy (David’s bacon, apple & cider sausage, scrambled eggs and baked beans).
This enormous plaza is every shopper’s dream. There’s Dion Lee, Manning Cartell, Topshop, Uniqlo… the list goes on. Trust us, you won’t want to leave.
Something Borrowed Designer Rental Boutique, Melbourne
Need a formal gown or glittery cocktail dress quickly but don’t want to pay full price? Something borrowed is the place where you can find the pieces and major brands you love – and wear them just for one night! Perhaps your man has surprised you with a fine dining restaurant and you need to outfit to match – then look no further than this life saving arrangement. Something Borrowed is now the place to go, to hire the perfect dress for any occasion.
The Botanical, South Yarra
An impressive wine list with accessible meals that ease naturally from breakfast or late brunch. Perfectly paired with a mimosa, this is one not to miss. For those who enjoy a late lunch the botanical is one of the hot spots for post work drinks with their lush bar out the back. Pep yourself up with an espresso martini after lunch here!
Rooftop Cinema, Melbourne City Centre
It’s time to put your feet up and unwind, so what better way to do it than to catch a classic flick on top of bustling Melbourne city? Be warned though, it can get a little windy up here. Bring a jumper just in case.
Chin Chin, Melbourne
Ask anyone for food recommendations in Melbourne and you’ll be greeted with an excitable “Chin Chin!” This institution offers fusion Asian food in small portions that are perfect for sharing, along with an incredible list of cocktails. Get there early or expect a lengthy wait…but we promise it’s worth it! The best part is that you can continue festivities afterwards downstairs at their pumping bar.
Spice Market, Melbourne City Centre
Footballers wives, Kim Kardashian and rock stars all head to this dark and alluring nightclub for the coolest way to end an evening. With deep sunken lounges and table service, you need to finish your night with a dark and stormy cocktail or the delicious esspresso martini!
