Bathrooms. A place we spend so much time yet so many of us simply cannot afford to fund our dream bathroom space. Well, I am here to tell you that you can do a mini overhaul yourself without spending thousands on new tiles and vanities.
Let’s start by saying goodbye to the clutter and mess that surrounds your basin each day. Clean out your drawers and cabinets ladies…you will be surprised at the amount of stuff you accumulate over the years. Old makeup that is growing bacteria is not good for anyone’s face and can make your skin irritable. Throw it out now. The bathroom is no place to be a hoarder.
Now you can start in a fresh and clean space. Think fresh flowers, ferns, new towels (such a treat!) and accessories. Surround yourself with things you love so it becomes a sanctuary. I burn a candle when I am getting ready in the morning and in the night. A simple treat that is a great way to wake you up in the morning and help you to wind down at night.
Here I have some cost effective suggestions for you to revamp your bathroom without dipping into your savings account.
Trust me, every bathroom can take a living organism! Whether its an orchid or potted fern on the vanity or window sill, a fiddle leaf or similar in a corner or for those with no space, a hanging plant, get something green in the space. You will be amazed at the instant ‘lift’ if gives the room.
This Maiden Hair Fern is on trend and easy to maintain. You can pick these up at the flower markets or Bunnings from as little as $8.00!
If you have the space on your vanity, this can be a really effective and decorative way of displaying items, its form and function! Perfect for holding hand wash, body cream, perfume bottles etc. I would advise only displaying the more ‘pretty’ products…no one wants to see your fake tan bottles lying around.
Whether they be plain white or graphic, treat yourself and buy some fresh bath towels. Nothing better than fresh, fluffy bath towels after a long day. Choose something that will complement the rest of the colour scheme in your bathroom, if it’s a vibrant white that is 100% ok, in fact these are my absolute favourite. If you want a graphic in monochromatic, try these from Citta Design.
If you don’t have tiled walls, you might want to liven up the area with a print. Not such a common item in bathrooms however I think it adds such personality and life. Choose something you love and can move from place to place with you. I am lusting after the Aqua Bumps photo’s at the moment, they are a classic that will be with you forever…also make the perfect gift.
Starting from $850 framed
Burning a beautiful quality candle is a great way to add ambience and a certain elegance to the bathroom. The Diptyque 34 Le Redoute Candle is marbled in a black and white exterior. Whilst slightly more expensive than regular candles, these French beauties are known for their strong scent and lasting wicks.
Adding some timber texture is a great way to warm up a cold bathroom. If you have the space, a little stool is the perfect accent to create contrast and warmth. Pop it next to the bath, it also might come in handy for popping a drink or books while relaxing in the bath!
